Why use Instagram?
Instagram critiques are a great way to add a strategic
telecollaborative component to your fine art curriculum. As art teachers we
always want our student artists to share and display their artwork in order to get feedback. However, due to physical
limitations and time constraints usually student artwork is only viewed and
critiqued by those with in the school building.
By using Instagram’s direct messaging feature a student will be able to critique and display their artwork outside the confines of their own school building. This will not only get student art to the world. It will also get the world's ideas about that art back to the art student. Allowing the student to then reflect and rework the art so that they can grow a develop artistically. Many famous artists today have Instagram accounts for promoting, critiquing, and networking. Why shouldn't art students use Instagram to do the same thing?
